A New Cosmetic Preservative Combination of Phenylethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin

Phenylethanol is one of the components of natural spices and has certain bacteriostatic effect. Ethyl hexyl glycerol can enhance the anti-corrosion function of phenylethanol. Neither of them is in the list of preservatives prescribed by the law, nor is it a prohibited substance for cosmetics. Their compositions have certain antiseptic effect. They are often called "no-added" preservatives or "zero-added" preservatives.

The shampoo was shampooed with the mixture of ethylhexyl glycerol and phenylethanol at a mass ratio of 3:7 (the percentage of components was 74.05 deionized water, 0.05 disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate, 0.5 hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, 13.0 polyoxyethylene lauryl ether ammonium sulfate, 6.0 lauryl ammonium sulfate and coconut oleyl ethanol). Amine 1.2, eighteen alcohol 0.4, poly two methyl siloxane 3, ethyl hexyl glycerol and phenethyl alcohol complex 0.8, flavor 0.3, thickener 0.2, sodium chloride 0.5) mixed microbial challenge test.

Mixture with 0.8% (mass percentage) is very protective to the product and can pass the microbial challenge test. Using 1% phenylethanol or 1% ethylhexyl glycerol as preservatives alone can not pass the microbial challenge test in shampoo.
